xXx: Return of Xander Cage: Movie Review
After Priyanka Chopra’s much-hyped debut in American TV series Quantico, Deepika Padukone garnered attention due to her debut in the Hollywood movie xXx: Return of Xander Cage.
Starring opposite Vin Diesel, Deepika was applauded for keeping her accent rooted to her nationality and unlike most other Indian actors; she didn’t try to mimic the foreign accent.
The film is the third installment in the xXx series but people are still wondering about what made the filmmakers take a decade long gap between the second and the third installment.
Even though the film didn’t do justice when compared to its prequels, but Deepika’s charm worked enough to draw her fans to the theater. Her confidence and attitude are pretty noticeable and the Bolly diva has left her mark both in the Hollywood and Bollywood industry.
For the Indians, the movie is all about Deepika Padukone. Though the storyline isn’t impressive enough but Deepika is shining all throughout and the Bollywood industry is pretty satisfied with it. The action sequences and terrific stunts in the film are a pleasure to the eyes.
Rajeev Masand has praised Deepika immensely but he found the film average. He stated, “Frankly the film isn’t great, or even particularly memorable. But it’s a terrific showcase for Deepika’s captivating presence, her agility in demanding action scenes, and above all, her blazing confidence. xXx: Return of Xander Cage is only moderately entertaining. But for the sheer pride of watching our girl add another feather to her cap, it’s worth a watch. I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five.”
Hindustan Times gave it 3 stars on 5 and said, “xXx is a great example of this. It was never meant to be anything more than what it is: An over-the-top action picture with a ridiculous plot and fun characters – you know – the sort of harmless movie that doesn’t take itself too seriously.”
Times Of India rated the film 3 on 5 and holds the opinion, “The movie has enough star power to perform well enough, particularly in Asian markets, to ensure yet another insane outing soon.”
All this being said, what is your verdict?
