Naam Shabana: Movie Review
Yes, we have had sequels in Bollywood but Neeraj Pandey came up with a prequel and the audience had high expectations from this one.
The nation was impressed with Taapsee Pannu’s short appearance in the 2015 film Baby. Agent Shabana chasing a suspect in Kathmandu and the action sequence between the two was praised by one and all.
Well, Neeraj Pandey thought of giving due importance to agent Shabana and came up with a spin-off namely Naam Shabana but he handed over the direction to Shivam Nair. Shabana played by Taapsee is an aggressive girl but she is torn between taking revenge and performing her duty. Well, this isn’t the essence of the film but the viewers are feeling so.
It seems the writer (Neeraj Pandey) is confused between two separate plots forcefully conjoined into one. If you think the film is all about Shabana and feminist power, well you are absolutely WRONG!
Akshay Kumar has a special appearance but he is the hero of the film. It is his short appearances that will keep you glued to your seats.
There’s Anupam Kher, Manoj Bajpayee, Danny Denzongpa in supporting roles but they haven’t been given any chance to take the bar of the film a bit higher.
Shabana looks good during an action sequence but she falls flat when the plot needs her to emote. The movie also falters when it comes to suspense and suspicion because it is way too predictable and the typical Neeraj Pandey essence is missing. If you are planning to watch the film because you loved Baby well, Naam Shabana isn’t for you.
You can, however, go for the film if you want to see how Akshay Kumar is ruling the film with his short appearance.
Here’s the trailer (don’t just depend upon this, though) 😛
