English Medium: Movie Review
Since the release of Baahubali: The Conclusion, Bollywood has given us multiple flops but fans had high hopes from Irrfan Khan starrer Hindi medium.
Well, Irrfan absolutely lived up to our expectations and the film is something to watch out for. Attacking the faulty Indian education system, the film throws a light upon the English-Hindi conflict in the Indian society.
Irrfan Khan as Raj Batra is at his best and Saba Qamar is seen shining as his wife Mita Batra. The Batras are trying hard to get their daughter’s future secured. A high-class English medium school is all they need for their daughter. Alas! They both speak Hindi and their daughter isn’t deemed fit for an English medium school.
Even after faking a posh lifestyle, all they face is hindrances. It is then that the Batras decide to try through the gareeb quota. Here we see the entry of Deepak Dobriyal as Shyam Prakash who is another highlight of the film.
The dialogues are top notch and the comic timing of the film is superb. When we have actors like Irrfan Khan and Deepak Dobriyal together on the screen, there has to be sheer brilliance. The film hits the English-Hindi agenda right in the face. The storyline is smooth but the climax is a bit predictable.
Taran Adarsh seems to be impressed with Irrfan Khan’s acting skills and called the film Wonderful.
Rajeev Masand has rated the film averagely giving Irrfan Khan the sole credit for carrying the film brilliantly.
Times Of India rated the film 4 out of 5 and mentioned, “Hindi Medium shines in two areas that most of our films often fall short of. As far as the story goes – good writing, and as far as comedy goes – great timing.”
Watch out for the trailer and you will definitely want to head to the theaters:
